Abdominoplasty, also known as Tummy Tuck, is designed to remove your excess skin and fat, while tightening your abdominal muscles to create a flatter abdomen. The Tummy Tuck procedure is particularly successful with women who are left with excess skin and stretch marks due to previous pregnancies, or women who have lost a significant amount of weight. The procedure can produce results that are similar to pre-pregnancy or preweight gain body shape. Liposuction is frequently performed simultaneously to further contour the body shape, creating a more youthful appearance.
The best candidates for the tummy tuck procedure are patients who are in relatively good shape, healthy, non-smokers, and who do not have significant medical problems (including diabetes).

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
Dr. Kovacs performs Tummy Tuck surgeries as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, as administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Smaller or "mini" Tummy Tucks can be performed under local anesthesia with deep sedation as well.
The procedure usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. All operations are performed in a fully credentialed and state-of-the-art surgical facilities.
During the procedure, excess skin and fat are removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened to create a flatter abdomen. Dr. Kovacs takes special care to ensure your belly button area looks completely natural after surgery. The abdominoplasty scar is usually located low and well concealed beneath the bikini or bathing suit line.
Tummy tucks are commonly performed in combination with other cosmetic plastic surgery procedures, such as liposuction, breast augmentation, breast lifts, and body lifts in order to enhance the overall aesthetic result.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY
After surgery, you will be discharged with dressings and an abdominal binder. Small suction drains are usually removed one to two weeks after your surgery.
The use of long-acting local anesthetic pain pumps ("On-Q Pain Pump") greatly reduce any pain or discomfort. Any residual post-operative discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Patients are allowed to shower several days after the procedure. All sutures placed are internally observed with nothing to remove post surgery. Dr. Kovacs instructs his tummy tuck patients to avoid heavy lifting and exercising for at least three weeks following their tummy tuck procedure.
The risk of complications is usually minor when a Tummy Tuck is performed by a properly qualified cosmetic surgeon. Major complications are rare. Specific risks and the suitability of a tummy tuck procedure for a given individual can be determined at the time of consultation. You can reduce your risk of complications by closely following your surgeon's
instructions, both before and after surgery.
